• In California, crude oil makes up about 52% of the state’s energy sources. In the United States, that percentage is about 37%. The global consumption of crude oil makes up 36% of the energy resources.
• Crude oil is a vital source of energy in the transportation sector, making up about 96% of the United State’s transportation fuels.
• In California, the states consumed about 656 million barrels in 2008. Out of that, about 318 million barrels came from foreign oil imports. Only about 250 million barrels of oil came from California production.
• In the United States, about 7 billion barrels of oil were consumed in 2008. About 5 billion barrels a year came from foreign oil imports. Only about 2 billion barrels of oil came from United State’s production.
• Crude oil is a reliable, affordable, and viable energy source that makes up more than 6,000 products.
